How to cancel your appointment

If you’re unable to attend your scheduled appointment, we offer easy way to cancel and free up the slot for others:

NHS or Airmid Apps: Quickly cancel your appointments using the NHS app or Airmid app.

If you encounter any issues with the apps, call the practice for assistance in cancelling your appointment.

Please notify us as soon as possible if you cannot attend to avoid a DNA (Did Not Attend). For further details, refer to our DNA policy section below.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or Call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Important: Pharmacy Appointments First

Before booking an appointment with your GP, consider visiting your local pharmacy for quick and effective treatment. Pharmacists can provide advice and prescribe medication for several conditions, including:

  • Earache (ages 1-17)
  • Impetigo (ages 1+)
  • Infected insect bites (ages 1+)
  • Shingles (ages 18+)
  • Sinusitis (ages 12+)
  • Sore throat (ages 5+)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) (women ages 16-64)

Pharmacists are trained healthcare professionals who can offer immediate assistance, treatment, and advice for these conditions, potentially saving you a trip to the GP. They can also update your GP health record to ensure seamless care. For conditions outside these age ranges, pharmacists can still provide valuable advice and refer you to a GP if necessary.

Teaching Practice

The practice is committed to training new GPs for the future and Dr Boteju and Dr Ong offer teaching opportunities for students at various stages of their training programme.

Medical Students

On occasions there may be one or more university students placed at the practice. The intention is for them to be present at your consultations. The consultation time with their presence is longer than the normal ones. You will be advised of this when you book your appointment and although we do hope that you won't mind assisting in their training, you do have the opportunity to decline if you so wish.

Foundation Doctors

Foundation Doctors have the opportunity to gain experience in a series of posts in a variety of specialties and healthcare settings. They spend four months with the practice and although they are able to see patients they are supervised and supported by our General Practioners. At the end of the Foundation stage they may choose to further their career as a General Practitioner or they may opt for continued hospital training.

Specialty Registrar (GPST)

The Specialty Registrar is a little further along in their training to become a General Practitioner. They also spend four months with the practice. They see patients but are supervised and supported by our General Practitioners.

Recording Consultations

On occasion we may request to record the consultation for training purposes. Any consultations recorded will be treated in line with the Data Protection Act 1998. We will ask you to complete a consent form before and after the consultation. If you do not wish your consultation to be recorded please let the Doctor know. Your treatment will not be effected in any way.

Did Not Attend (DNA) Policy

Unfortunately many patients fail to attend their appointments without informing the practice. These appointments could have been offered to other patients. In order to try to address this problem the practice has adopted a policy whereby if a patient does not attend two appointments in 3 months a warning letter will be sent to the patient stating that a further incident may result in removal from the practice list.

Late For Your Appointment

Patients who are late may not be seen.

In an attempt to reduce YOUR wait time we are sticking to strict appointment times. If you are late for the start of your appointment the clinician may not be able to see you as they will not be able to give you (and patients who come after you) the full assessment you require due to being rushed.

When a clinician see's a patient who is late, they in turn run late for all other patients during that clinic.

Please contact the surgery to cancel and re-book any appointment you will be late for.

Home visits - Housebound

If possible please try to telephone the surgery before 11am if you require a home visit.

A doctor will review all visits following morning surgery. If you feel your condition is urgent and can not wait until the Doctor contacts you please  call 111 or 999.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be resolved by advice from the clinician, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

Home visits are only available for patients who are genuinely housebound because of illness or disability. Transport problems and the weather situation are not reasons for requesting a home visit.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.
